Monday, August 27, 2012

Who doesn't have a blog these days? From high school storytellers to high profile businesses, blogs have demanded the attention of almost everyone everywhere. But the big question is what are they used for? Blogs can be used for almost anything, but typically they are created to transport information and ideas. Over the past 5 years blogs have dominated the cyber world creating outlets for people and business increasing product sales and overall traffic.

Corey Eridon gives us "12 Things You Should Be Using Your Blog For (besides blogging)", which is a list of ideas and tips that will help boost traffic.

1) Solicit Content From High-Profile Sites

If that caveat about still having to create blog content was, indeed, a total bummer, this tip should strike your fancy. Instead of writing content yourself, solicit it from big names and high profile sites

6) Update the Content of Popular Old Posts

We're not done making it rain with old blog posts yet! Take a look at those old posts that performed really well -- you can go right into your blog analytics to check things like number of views and inbound links per post. Could any of those use an update? It might be high time you brush the dirt off of those oldies but goodies, give them a quick makeover, and re-debut them. It's quick work, and the topic has already proven to be a hit with your readers.

8) Make it Social

If you haven't already, spend some time optimizing your blog for social media; the success of your blog depends on it. Your blog should have social sharing buttons, as well as social follow buttons so you can simultaneously expand your social reach and the reach of your blog content.

Creators say Colorful Gambling App was not meant for Children

Thursday, August 09, 2012

Im sure many of you have heard the news already, even though, for now, it only applies to people in the UK, but Facebook releases a real gambling app. The big topic of discussion, however, is the child friendly artwork which accompanies the apps, which has critics raving. According to an article on Forbes, Gamesys, the creator of the app,  states that it wasn't their intention to attract children and declare there will be strong age regulations and policies for those under the age of 18.

"But it’s legal and regulated here in the United Kingdom. Facebook reportedly said that it chose to launch a real-cash gambling app in the U.K. because of the country’s “a mature and very well-regulated gambling market.” Which means it’s probably not worried that kids will be attracted to the colorful creatures in its new game."

Be PR, Be Prodcutive

Monday, August 06, 2012

PR work can be overwhelming at times. From client request, pitching, and meetings, PR work can prove to be a hassle. So how do you maintain your sanity, while also getting the job done? What do you do to remain productive in a field that changes like the hours on a clock? Carm Lyman gives us "5 Tips to boost PR productivity (and maintain your sanity)." Below are a few tips that will surely point you in the right direction of staying pro-active and productive.

"1. Plan your week, and beyond. Think through the coming week. In addition to writing down what needs to get done, list other tasks that can be completed, because clients or your boss always appreciate your accomplishing more than you promise.

3. Take occasional breaks. Get up from your chair once in a while. Walk away from the computer. Head outside for two minutes. It’s that simple. The point is to give yourself a breather and clear your head, especially if you’re managing multiple accounts and tasks. If you end up not needing that extra “unexpected” time allocated in No. 2 (above), use it to take a five-minute break before getting back to your work. You’ll be amazed at how even a small break can lead to hours of focused, productive work. "

"The key is to be proactive, plan accordingly, and think long-term."
